CNG Book Club

Let’s gather with other like-minded individuals to dive deep and discuss the book:

The Highly Sensitive Person’s Guide to Dealing with Toxic People-

How to Reclaim Your Power From Narcissists & Other Manipulators, by Shahida Arabi

This is a 5-week book club via Zoom where we will dissect the types of toxic people, the games they play and the circus they create. We’ll discuss how this plays out on highly sensitive people, what gifts they truly hold by being highly sensitive, and the boundaries they can put into place in order to find peace and joy.

 Tuesdays  ▪  April 2 - April 30, 2024

Week One ▪ April 2

Reading assignment: Introduction

We’re going to kick this book club off in easy speed. We have heavy topics to tackle, mixed with a lot of emotion. This book is one of the best I have read with simple explanations and wonderful examples, so we’re going to let it all soak in at a doable pace. We’ll do introductions of ourselves to a level you are comfortable with since we will be spending some quality time together over the next five weeks. You only need to have completed the book’s intro, 10 whole pages, easy peasy.

Week Two ▪  April 9

Reading assignment: Chapters 1 & 2

We start to pick up the pace getting into the nitty gritty of toxic people, manipulators and narcissists, and well how they mesh (or don’t mesh) with highly sensitive people. Reading assignment is 50 pages, but it’s riveting and reads quick.

Week Three ▪ April 16

Reading assignments: Chapters 3 & 4

Once we understand the many faces of toxic people and what we are dealing with, we can start to piece together a plan in getting through this, taking care of ourselves and building strength. Our sensitivity and compassion are gifts to be honored. We got the most reading to do for this week, 66 pages, but we’re worth it. Right!

Week Four ▪ April 23

Reading assignment: Chapters 5, 6 & 7

This week we’re going to keep the good feelings and momentum going and continue creating a better version of ourself with self-care strategies and healing. This is when stuff really gets good, and to boast the reading assignment is only 48 pages.

Week Five ▪ April 30

No reading necessary!

BONUS WEEK. We did it! We read a book! Let’s gather one last time to follow-up and share how executing our individual plans are going and celebrate some more of the new life we are creating.

This book club is hosted by Eleanor Marks, who once sat where you sat trying to figure out what the heck was going in her marriage. While navigating the decay of the life she once knew, she did more research and reading then she did in college, now just on the topic of narcissistic abuse. After consuming her share of divorce wine and frozen pizza, she pieced together a life that is brighter now than she could have ever imagined years ago slumped down on the laundry room floor. Eleanor is a certified High Conflict Divorce Coach who works closely with the Covert Narcissism Group and is thrilled to help those navigate a path out of their chaos.
